In this edition of Brand Stories, Secure Logistics tells how they are organizing access to terminals and other logistics locations in a more efficient and, above all, secure way.

Secure access with the XS-ID

Fast, simple and safe access to 110 locations in logistics and industry. With the XS-ID from Secure Logistics, the access process for terminals and factory sites is much more efficient and reliable. It provides benefits for employees and employers and prevents (identity) fraud and crime.

At many locations in logistics or industry, employees cannot simply walk in. With must identify themselves upon entry and demonstrate compliance with access requirements. Certificates such as VCA and ADR are often a requirement. To be able to see at a glance whether someone is allowed to enter a location, Secure Logistics developed the XS-ID.

'The XS-ID is a unique identifier to which not only identity data, but also more than 500 certificates and trainings can be linked. When the employee scans the XS-ID at the entrance gate, the card reader not only checks the identity of that person, but also whether he has the right papers,' says Frank de Krou, Head of Commercial Affairs at Secure Logistics. 'If you are part of the community of Secure Logistics, the Circle of Trust as we call it, you know that your identity is guaranteed and that you have certainty about the authority of the people who come to your location. People now all walk around with a piece of paper that is stamped, and that is super fraudulent. If you show up at a gate with an XS ID, they no longer ask for your paper passport or ID, but the acceptance site knows: this is a reliable identity.

Employability

With the XS-ID, employees can quickly and securely gain access to 110 locations in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. More than 4,600 companies have already joined the platform. Employers get a better overview of the employability of employees thanks to the XS-ID. For example, if a transport company wants to transport hazardous materials, the manager can immediately see which drivers hold the ADR certificate and are therefore suitable for the trip.

'The XS-ID also provides tremendous safety on the shop floor. For mechanics, for example, in addition to any gate instruction, Stipel, IPAF or CDR certifications are important. If you are a mechanic working for one of our customers, then you know that your buddy who is welding next to you has his stuff in order as well,' explains De Krou. 'Employers and employees are also notified when their certificates are about to expire, so they can renew them in time.'

The XS-ID, which allows you to digitally sign but also pay for an e-CMR, has now become a household name in the transport sector. 'We have 53,000 users/members, in fact, you can no longer get to a container terminal in the whole of the Netherlands without our Cargocard.'

Biometric check

'The XS-ID has several manifestations. An app and various XS-ID Keys, such as the CargoCard, Digital Safety Passport and PortKey. Possibly with biometric check through fingervein or facial recognition,' says De Krou.

Acceptance locations can choose for themselves how heavy they want to tackle security. 'You can accept an app or XS-ID key without a biometric check, but we also offer higher levels of security where you can choose to work with facial recognition or fingervein. With fingervein, the veins in your finger are read and that's even more secure than just the fingerprint.' With facial recognition, the user himself agrees to have his face template verified in order to then gain access. So here the work is done without a database. The user is 100% "in control" of his data.

Privacy

Privacy and data protection are paramount at Secure Logistics. 'It is important that no one gains insight into the data linked to the XS-ID. For example, if a user scans the CargoCard at one of Secure Logistics' access points and meets the access requirements (including validity of certificate or training), we send a message to the underlying TOS/GOS system that everything is correct,' explains De Krou. 'So we don't send any additional data. These certificates and trainings are only viewable by the XS-ID carrier and the employer, but the owner always retains sole rights over the data. Employees can shield irrelevant certificates and share only the necessary data. Employers, however, can view the certificates if the employee gives permission. This allows companies to quickly determine which person they can employ where because that person has the right papers.'

AVG-proof

'We work completely AVG-proof. In fact, even before there was talk of the AVG, we were already working
