European Bulk Services (EBS) B.V. is a large multipurpose terminal operator for dry bulk in the port of Rotterdam. EBS consists of two terminals and a fleet of floating cranes. The company handles around 12 million tonnes of products per yeear. The terminals are situated at strategic locations in the Rotterdam port area, namely Europoort and Botlek.

Why change what is good
When HSE Manager Sander Boutestein started working at EBS, they were already using the card readers from Secure Logistics. He has continued working with them. "The cooperation with Secure Logistics is fine, so there is no reason to change this," says Sander Boutestein.
Promoting safety and quality
According to Boutestein, the system works almost faultlessly, so there is little to worry about. This way, the security and quality of access control is guaranteed. By using the system, the ISPS requirement is also met. ISPS is an international security standard that you must comply with when receiving sea-going vessels.
A workable, clear system
One advantage of the system is that you can easily look back at the movements of individuals. Which gate they have been at, who has gone through a particular door, etc. Time codes can be obtained for this. If necessary, you can then call up the camera images. This makes it easier to file a complaint about the dumping of waste, damage to machinery and the like. The software behind the XS-Keys is nice to work with, says Boutestein.
The Portkey, also an XS-Key, is mainly used by government services for access to nearly all ISPS locations in the region. In the event of calamities, civil servants can enter the site automatically and still be fully identified, which means a delay for security. The HSE manager sees this as a real added value.
